This year’s lineup boasted some of today’s most influential and esteemed instructors and a stellar 2015 Emerging AD class. Sponsored by Collegiate Consulting and Winthrop Intelligence (WIN AD), participants of Emerging AD 2015 were welcomed with a kick-off reception on Sunday, July 12 with a timely talk from guest speaker Nzinga Shaw, Chief Diversity and Inclusion Officer for the Atlanta Hawks. Day two of the Academy featured informative panels which included Internal Jobs: Student Athlete Focused Leadership, NAIA, D2, and D3 – Are They for Me? There werebreakout sessions for more in-depth discussions, and an inspiring panel on Diversity in Athletics. One of the many highlights was hearing from first-time instructor, Judy Sweet, a pioneer of Title IX and University of California- San Diego, Director of Emerita; who spoke on her experience as the first female Director of Athletics to run both male and female sports at UC San Diego. She spoke of the challenges she faced and how she was able to overcome such insurmountable odds. The final day of the Academy concluded with an amazing panel on The Search Process with Daniel Parker, Vice President & Managing Director, Sports - Parker Executive Search, Judy Sweet, University of California - San Diego, Director of Athletics Emerita and Dr. Derrick Gragg, Vice-President and Director of Athletics, The University of Tulsa. The panel discussed important do’s and don’ts of the interview process, what search firms look for in viable candidates and how to best prepare for in-person and video interviews. The day provided hands on experience for hand-picked participants to receive constructive critiques on their cover letters and resumes by the Team Cover and Team Resume panel. The final day culminated in the WIN AD sponsored mock interviews with select participants who were provided complimentary access to WIN AD for 24-hours to review an assigned institution. Instructors created a job description and held mock interviews for a fictional position at said institution For those who could not attend the Academy, Emerging AD enlisted a social media correspondent, Khadija Head of Headcoachead.com who live-tweeted the entire experience along with multi-media partner, Fans Favorite Fan. With the dedicated hashtag #EmergingAD15, followers were able to experience the event while breaking Emerging AD social media metrics that recorded an approximated reach of 85,984 and an impressive 2.1 million impressions.
