Strong salary increase in June

After three months of minimal movement, average travel salaries leapt in June to set a new high for 2015, according to C&M Travel Recruitment (http://www.candm.co.uk/) and C&M Executive Recruitment (http://www.candmexecutive.co.uk/)’s latest Travel Salary Index which surveyed all new roles registered at the companies in the month.

The increase of 4.07 per cent was the largest rise since May 2014 and means that the typical new travel role now pays an average of £25,873.

June saw a rise in salaries across the board, with executive wages (those paying above £40,000) increasing to their highest level since last December, while pay for new standard travel jobs (those paying up to £40,000) increased at its fastest rate since last October.

Underlining the positive figures, the three-month average salary (which provides a more reliable indication of the state of the market) has now risen annually for the past nine consecutive months.

Speaking about the stats, Barbara Kolosinska, Director at C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment, said: “Average salaries rose by more than £1,000 in June to reach a new yearly high, with wages increasing all across the country from North to South - what a great month to be looking for a new job in the travel industry!

“Looking more closely, the biggest rises were seen in London and the South-West, while there were also very healthy salary increases for both standard travel roles and executive positions.”

More vacancies, more candidates

The number of new jobs being made available by travel companies rose impressively in June, with the month recording the biggest rise since January. However, although candidate registrations also rose, albeit marginally, the number of new applicants has now fallen annually for the past three months after increasing for the previous seven months straight.

“The summer period is inevitably a traditionally quiet time for candidate registrations, so last month’s relatively weak figures are no reason to be concerned”, said Ms Kolosinska.

“Much more positive is the double-digit increase in new available vacancies. With many new jobs being created and candidate numbers remaining relatively static, this obviously means there are now great opportunities available for the right applicants.”

All figures are drawn from the salaries of the month’s new vacancies advertised with C&M Travel Recruitment and C&M Executive Recruitment.
