LDJ Capital, The Soho Loft Media Group and Victoria Global covered OPAL's Public Funds Summit East in NewPort, Rhode Island on 20th to 22nd July 2015

NEW YORK - July 29, 2015 - PRLog -- Trustees, pension representatives, real estate managers, private equity firms, venture capitalists, funds of funds, insurance and benefit companies, equity managers, hedge funds, consultants, attorneys and other professions converged at the NewPort Marriott, NewPort, Rhode Island for the Public Funds Summit East. The two and a half day annual event organized by Opal Financial Group discussed issues about financing beneficiary liabilities in an environment where returns are declining while striking a balance between reward and risk paradigms. With the summit theme “Navigate the Future”,  discussions on how surplus returns will impact on staff benefit plans as well as carefully review the processes of selecting and evaluating investment managers were held.

The Chairman of LDJ Capital, The Soho Loft Media Group and Victoria Global David Drake says, "There is a Chinese proverb that encourages people to look at problems as opportunities. Problems occur when fundamental change is needed or when there is need to shift from old paradigms to new ones. That is how the business environment is. Rather than choosing the company they can invest in, they need to decide which project to invest in. There is a shift in investment decisions from company driven to project driven."

The summit agenda started off with an Annual Regatta Cup where attendees worked with a crew of professional sailing charter. The summit  featured exclusive panel discussions with dialogues driven by family offices and consultants, keynote speeches and networking breaks. Some of the topics that attendees discussed include “Pension Outlook: An overview of the Retirement System in the United States”, “Emerging Strategies and Styles for Investing”, “Best Practices in Asset Allocation”, “Challenges of Public Pension Plans”, and “Equity Investing and Controlling Risks”. Attendees had  engaging discussions around topics such as “Hedge Fund’s Role in Pension Portfolios”, “Opportunities in the Real Estate Sector” and “Risk Management and Measurements: Factors to Consider during Asset Allocation”. Attendees werer treated to a cocktail reception at the end of day one and a summer social party with live music at the end of day two.
