About The Lachicotte Company

Anyone who has delved into the history of Pawleys Island, South Carolina surely has happened upon the name "Lachicotte" ( pronounced "LASH-cot"). The French family who made their home here over five generations ago has been a vital part of growing and developing what we know as Pawleys Island today. After selling the hammock shops in 1991 Arthur "Doc" Lachicotte, founded the company in 1991, applying 40 years of experience in real estate development and sales including the retail shopping complex of over 20 stores and restaurants, known as The Hammock Shops.  In 2008, Doc’s daughter, Lou Lachicotte, who had previously worked in mortgage banking and real estate sales, came over to the company as Broker in Charge.

In April, 2012 The Lachicotte Company merged with Vintage Estates Realty, an exclusive affiliate of Christie’s International Real Estate.  Vintage was owned by friends of the Lachicottes, the Cooper family, Chuck, Gary and Gina Cooper.  Their father, Charles Cooper, had been a longtime friend and business partner with Doc Lachicotte in various ventures over the years.  Chuck Cooper serves as vice president in charge of commercial real estate sales and leasing at The Lachicotte Company.
