By: Kolping India Kolping India, a not-for-profit organisation has organised an Herbal Exhibition at Keezhambi, Kancheepuram that displayed wide variety of medicinal herbs. The exhibition was inaugurated by Msgr. Ottmar Dillenburg – President, Kolping International, Germany in the presence of dignitaries from Government departments, educational & research institutions, NGOs and community members. The exhibition has wide range of over 200 medicinal herbs with placards informing its characteristic & usage. Charts were also displayed that provides valuable information of Indian traditional medicines. The variety of cactus at the stands has attracted the attention of many. The Exhibition is open to everyone on all days between 8 am to 6 pm. While commenting on this initiative Fr. Antony Raj, National Director, Kolping India said “What was started as a small initiative with a collection of few herbs has grown to accommodate over 200 varieties of herbs. Having seen the thirst of the public to know about herb, over the last 6 months, we have decided to establish a permanent herbal exhibition that would encourage use of herbs for home remedies & low-cost healthy dietary practices among people. We have also planned to organise training programs on preparation of low-cost nutritious food and herbal remedies in future. Our objective is to revive our ancient system of health & food practices that are affordable and accessible. ” The guests for the function Mr. G. Sivarudhraya - Revenue Divisional Officer, Kancheepuram, Mrs. Sasikala, Hospital Superintendent, Govt. Hospital, Kancheepuram, Mr. Srivatsav, Asst. Director of Horticulture, Kancheepuram, lauded the initiative and urged people to choose healthy life style practices. Mr. Panchavarnam, herbal expert spoke about the wealth of knowledge our ancestors had in dietary practices and natural healing. He urged Kolping India to further expand the collection of herbs with thematic display.
