July 16, 2015 - PRLog -- The Type I transmembrane protein CD45 is a protein tyrosine phosphatase that is used widely as a surface marker for nucleated hematopoietic cells. Due to its generally robust expression on cells of lymphoid and myeloid lineage, the presence or absence of CD45 is commonly assessed when characterizing mesenchymal stem cell populations. In addition, as a pivotal factor in the cell signaling network driving T cell development and immune cell activation threshold, CD45 is garnering much interest as both a potential immunomodulatory target as well as an interaction partner of certain viral proteins.
