City Road, London - Basement Swimming Pool Facility

July 15, 2015 - PRLog -- Cheshire Wellness was commissioned by a London-based client to design and install a spectacular basement facility in a luxury 27-story apartment complex.

The project – situated on City Road in the heart of London was a highly contested contract which included the design and installation of an innovative swimming pool, sauna, steam room, experience shower, foot spa and heated tiled loungers.

The swimming pool features two water cannons and bespoke fade tiles which provide the perfect ambience for relaxation. The five seat custom-made spa is integrated into the pool where clients can experience ultimate comfort and stimulation resting against soothing massage jets. A state-of-the-art gym runs adjacent to the pool with glass panels providing an impressive view of the whole facility. The sauna, steam room and heated loungers complete a very pleasurable wellness experience.

As a special project for Cheshire Wellness, City Road presented the opportunity to design and produce all aspects of the wellness spectrum – from the pool to loungers. This was a highly complex project as the complete pool design formed the support for the whole building – innovation overcoming structural restrictions which would not compromise the overall design.

Managing Director, Andy Phillips added: “City Road was a challenging project to undertake and the end result is ultimately timeless. The client was heavily involved with the design and it was a pleasure to have been part of the team.”

Technical Manager – Nick Laverick led the design process for City Road. He added: “This type of project had to be undertaken by drawing from all of our resources. Basement pools aren’t too dissimilar to that of a standard pool, but drainage removal, ground water and the general logistics of working below ground are somewhat challenging – there are no seconds chances, so everything had to be taken into consideration. The City Road pool was constructed within the concrete base of the entire building, so it was essential to implement the highest grade insulation and all pipe-work was strategically placed into the concrete leading to pool room. These circumstances provided an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our capability with such a demanding contract.”

Basement facilities have become increasingly popular for both commercial and domestic clients. Heavily urbanised areas such as London, Paris and Madrid are increasingly restricted in terms of indoor and outdoor living space; therefore basement developments are an ideal option for those bounded to such circumstances.
