Farmers Park Hosts Community Gardens

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - July 14, 2015 - PRLog -- In addition being home to the popular Farmers Market of the Ozarks, Farmers Park has extended its support of local agriculture to the park itself. Farmers Park has created Community Gardens where friends of the park can plant, cultivate, and harvest their own fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Farmers Park Community Gardens are composed of 13 separate plots that will be maintained and cared for by a diverse mix of retail, residential, commercial and surrounding neighborhood tenants. Community gardeners are encouraged to utilize organic growing practices and even have access to coffee grounds from Farmers Park restaurants to use in their plots.

The Farmers Park community has the vision to create and cultivate a thriving, life-long network of local gardeners. By providing space and support, Farmers Park hopes the linking of community owned gardens with local food systems, fostering environmental stewardship, and sustainable choices for generations will accomplish this.

Each month, Farmers Park hosts a Garden Party during the first Parties at the Park of the month. The next Garden Party will be on August 6 from 6:30 – 7:30pm at Farmers Park Community Gardens. Farmer’s Park is located at 4139 S Nature Center Way, Springfield, MO 65804

Representatives from Urban Roots & University of Missouri Extension office available on site during these parties to answer questions or offer advice.
