Chicago Food Festival Season Continues Next Saturday at Northbrook Center Food Truck Festival

Local food enthusiasts get another shot at sampling acclaimed Chicago street food

CHICAGO - July 13, 2015 - PRLog -- Chicago’s epic Taste of Chicago, which ended on Sunday, glorifies the local cuisine scene.  The Taste, which has been described as the largest food festival in the world, exemplifies the cultural diversity of Chicago through food.

But if you couldn’t make it, or did make it and wish it was still going on because, face it, who could eat everything that was being offered, no worries!  Just cast your eyes and palates a little northward this weekend and continue rejoicing in a smorgasbord of Chicago’s great street food.

This coming Saturday, the food caravan moves to the north shore as the beautiful Northbrook Center mall plays host to a food carnival featuring the greater Chicago area’s best food trucks, some of which appeared at The Taste of Chicago.  The NorthBrook Food Truck Festival’s roster features a mobile buffet, with an international flavor that combines sweet and savory culinary delights.  The food trucks that will encamp at the mall will offer food specialties that reflect divergent tastes and cultures and include:

Yum Dum - Asian, specializing in steamed dumplings & baowiches

Haute and Ready - Gourmet sandwiches and sides

La Cocinita - Latin American street food

5411 Empanada - Argentinian empanadas & special sauces

Da Lobsta - International lobster rolls

Gino’s Steaks - Sandwiches, fries & more

Beaver’s Donuts - Mini donuts with signature toppings

Chicago Cupcakes - Unique gourmet cupcakes

“Food truck festivals are starting to find their place in the public dining scene,” said Jeremy Baras, the CEO of PopUp Republic, which organized the event.  “Where else can you go to one location and have such an eclectic choice of fresh, delicious international street food, and at prices that are so affordable,” he said.

Baras said that shopping malls on weekends are ideal settings at which to hold a food truck festival.  “Tens of thousands of shoppers frequent the major malls on weekends, so it’s great for the food truck proprietors.  People are milling around, going from store to store, sometimes with families in tow.  You get hungry, but may not want a full sitdown meal.  Food trucks are ideal solutions and offer whatever kind of food you are hungry for, from savory to sweet, from gourmet to global street food,” Baras said.  “And this is a great chance to camouflage a visit to the mall by saying “Hey, let’s jump in the car and head off to a great food truck festival I heard about!”

The Northbrook Food Truck Festival takes place on Saturday July 18th from 12 to 4 pm.  More information is available at https://www.popuprepublic.com/pur-events/northbrook-food-truck-festival.html or by writing to info@popuprepublic.com.
