PRLog -- Oct4 belongs to the POU family of transcription factors and is an essential constituent of the central transcriptional network that regulates pluripotency. It orchestrates gene expression profiles crucial for both the induction and maintenance of pluripotency through direct DNA binding and interaction with other key transcription, chromatin regulation, and signaling factors. Future research into the molecular mechanisms underlying Oct4’s functions will likely be of great value to the burgeoning field of regenerative biology.
