Reliance Group to Invest Rs.10,000 crore in the Digital space to build ‘Digital India’

DELHI, India - July 10, 2015 - PRLog -- In a bid to support and promote Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Digital India’ programme, Reliance Group plans to invest Rs.10,000 crore in the Digital, Cloud and Telecom space. The investment, as announced by Group Chairman Anil Ambani on the occasion of the launch of the ‘Digital India’ week in Delhi, will seek to finance transformational initiatives across the Digital, Telecom and Cloud space. The ‘Digital India’ week came as a step in PM Modi’s initiative to revolutionise India’s digital space, thereby digitally-empowering the people of the country by generating, spreading and enhancing the ustilisation of Information Technology and the digital space.

With the Rs.10,000 crore investment, Reliance Group aims to accomplish the full deployment of next-generation content, along with Cloud Delivery Network (CDN), by the end of the current year. The Group’s plans for the CDN chart out five fully functional Cloud Xchange points –a feat that comes as a first for the country.

These Xchange nodes to be set up by Relianc Group will prove to be hugely beneficial to governmental departments. They will be able to access 240 times the amount of computing power than that which is presently available in data centres of the Government. Additionally, the Xchange nodes will also offer more than 6 times the high speed storage currently accessible in India.

Reliance Communications (RCom), as Reliance Group’s telecom wing, is the country’s 3rd largest provider of data centre facilities. RCom’s current data centre capacity stands at around 6,00,000 sq. feet, but with the investment in the digital space, Reliance Group will double data centre capacity across the country –reaching a total of approximately 1.2 million sq. feet within the forthcoming years.

Not only will Reliance Group pursue an expansion of cloud service and data centre facilities across the country, but the Group is also set to introduce various schemes that seek to encourage around 300 million customers –across various businesses- to secure their own ‘Digital Lockers’. Group Chairman Anil Ambani deems Digital Lockers a promising phenomenon, saying, "A futuristic element of the Prime Minister's Digital Vision is a Digital Locker for every citizen.” He goes on to add, "Having already signed up for this personally, it will be my effort to persuade others in our Group to enroll.”

While Rcom is already at the crux of India’s digital backbone, Reliance Group seeks to further their actions to meet the PM’s goal of a digitally-empowered nation.
