Ballet in Cleveland to transform into "Ballet in the City"

Ballet in Cleveland takes new name and extends presentations nationwide.

CLEVELAND - July 10, 2015 - PRLog -- CLEVELAND, Ohio- July 10, 2015 - Ballet in Cleveland, a presentation company that showcases many of the nation’s top professional ballet dancers for performances and programming in Cleveland, is expanding and changing its name to Ballet in the City.

In less than three years, the Playhouse Square-based organization has presented many of the nation’s most well-known professional ballet dancers for master classes and choreography programming. Now, with a sold-out Gala featuring TIME Magazine cover star Misty Copeland, a sold-out world premiere of The Ashley Bouder Project, and a surge of press highlighting the organization’s unique approach to revitalizing the art of ballet, Ballet in Cleveland is ready to revolutionize ballet in Cleveland and beyond as Ballet In The City.

“We began in Cleveland and will remain headquartered at Playhouse Square in downtown Cleveland, but the popularity of our work and the flexibility of our business model have allowed us to expand to cities around the nation,” stated Jessica Wallis, Founder and Executive Director of Ballet in Cleveland, and now Ballet in the City.

It is evident that Ballet in Cleveland’s programming is becoming attractive to other cities, so Wallis began to explore the ballet scene nationwide. Most recently she traveled to Detroit and found that, similar to the theaters at Playhouse Square, Detroit Opera House is conducive to ballet programming. “We are enthusiastic to work in partnership with the city of Detroit, and other cities like it, to help augment and build the culture of ballet through this newly re-branded organization,” explained Wallis.

The Ballet in the City re-brand launch party will take place at Cleveland Heights’ Nighttown on September 17th.  Following the event, Ballet in the City will partner with Bloch Dance USA and former New York City Ballet soloist Kathryn Morgan to present the world premiere of “The Red Shoes” variation, a piece created specifically for Ms. Morgan, on September 19th at Cleveland’s Playhouse Square. This performance will be subsequently presented at venues in cities around the country, including the Detroit Opera House, to establish Ballet in the City’s presence nationwide. In addition to the presentation of Kathryn Morgan, Ballet in the City will present Sascha Radetsky, former American Ballet Theatre soloist and cast member of the Starz Network’s new ballet-centered series, Flesh and Bone.

“This is the time for us to capitalize on the unique qualities of our business model and move forward with the work we do with professional dancers in Cleveland and beyond. We couldn’t be more excited,” stated Wallis.
