ICRA Infection Control Training Provided For Cummings Electric Texas

The Linders Health Institute to Provide Mandatory ICRA Training to Cummings Electric LP in Texas

DALLAS - July 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Dallas, TX  July 9, 2015

The Linders Health Institute will provide specialized Infection Control Risk Assessment (ICRA) training for Cummings Electric August 6-7 that will assist the company’s standing as a leading health care electrical contractor in Texas to meet federal government infection control objectives under the Affordable Care Act (ACA).

Under ACA, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) issued guidelines requiring health care facilities to increase their monitoring  for patient safety goals, including those areas in construction zones at the hospital.  Hospitals now are required to produce positive clinical outcomes, increase efficiency and lower costs to maximize reimbursement and meet National Patient Safety Goals.

To reach these goals, hospitals need to make sure that all contractors are fully trained in infection control, including bloodborne pathogen compliance mandated by The Joint Commission (TJC) and the DNV, accrediting organizations for hospitals. TJC is stepping up audits in construction zones to make sure that contractors are meeting ICRA requirements under its standards.

The Linders Health Institute, led by executive director Marlene Linders, is the leading provider of training for construction contractors in the health care industry and is a nationally recognized expert in health care infection control and risk management.

The Linders Health Institute’s training course for construction contractors in
health care, The Fundamentals of Infection Prevention for Best Practices During Construction, is endorsed by the American Institute of Architects and the US Green Building Council.

Without proper control measures during construction, nosocomial infections or Healthcare Acquired Infections can become rampant at hospitals and outpatient facilities. Construction infections are reported to cause between 5,000 to 7,000 deaths annually. “These deaths are directly related to a lack of compliance protocol and training in infection control during the construction process,” says Linders.

Contaminants such as pathogens, germs and bacteria have the ability to navigate into and spread through buildings, via ventilation systems, equipment, furniture, clothing or individuals themselves, causing potentially dangerous conditions, such as MRSA. “It’s essential that construction contractors, who often travel between sites, are fully trained in infection control to prevent the spread of germs among patients and staff at hospitals,” explains Linders.

The Linders Health Institute has provided training to Parkland Hospital in Dallas, which has resulted in the hospital becoming an acknowledged leader in infection control. Under its new construction safety plan, Parkland requires all project managers and superintendents to have mandatory ICRA training from an organization with at least five years of experience in health care and a working knowledge base of pathogens and cross contamination.

The Linders Health Institute also has partnered with ABC South Texas for customized ICRA training and offers boot camps in San Antonio, Dallas, and Houston.

Cummings Electric has 500 employees, and 40 percent of their work is in the health care industry.
