Postcrossing turns 10 - from side project to 30 million worldwide connections

TAVIRA, Portugal - July 9, 2015 - PRLog -- Paulo Magalhães founded Postcrossing in July 2005, with the goal of connecting postcard lovers worldwide. He missed receiving postcards, and suspected there might be others out there who did too, so he created a website platform which would act as a hub between people who shared the same interest for traditional mail.

Fast-forward 10 years, Postcrossing has become the go-to website for everyone who loves to fill their mailbox with postcards. With members in 213 countries, from Afghanistan to Zimbabwe, the project has no boundaries such as nationality, religion, political beliefs, age or gender.

On the anniversary of the project, Paulo commented: “In a day and age when staying in touch has become instant and effortless, no digital tool has yet replaced the charm of the classic postcard. Anyone can click a button… but if you want to show you really care, a postcard can be so much more meaningful. These last 10 years and 30 million postcards have shown us that people all over the world, from all ages and backgrounds still love the humble postcard.”

Anniversary celebrations

As part of its anniversary, Postcrossing announced Ten years of smiles - a special map feature where members can upload photos or videos, wishing happy birthday to the project. Hundreds of people all around the world have already posted their birthday wishes to the project, and many more are expected to add theirs until the end of the month.
