ROANOKE, Va. - July 8, 2015 - PRLog -- Salvage Dawgs honors our nation’s past when they visit historic Bedford, Virginia in a new episode airing this Sunday, July 12 at 9pm EST on the DIY Network.  Robert Kulp and Mike Whiteside lead the team as they recover a giant tin roof and beautiful terracotta block from a massive grain silo dating back to the early 1900’s.

“Mike – now known as ‘Captain Silo’ -- has always wanted to tackle a project like this,” said Robert Kulp as the Dawgs test their engineering skills in maneuvering thousands of 25 lb. terracotta block from the massive 45-foot tall structure.  “I am just not sure he really did his due diligence in terms of the details,” he laughs.

Meanwhile, back at the Black Dog Salvage shop they Dawgs have some fun with a vintage dynamite blaster and the design crew builds a one-of-a-kind glass top coffee table from a reclaimed factory cart.  Both items joined the items available for sale on the warehouse floor in Roanoke, Virginia.

On the heels of Independence Day, the Dawgs make a visit to the nearby National D-Day Memorial in an emotional tribute to their family legacy and the history of the region.  Bedford – located in southwest Virginia -- sustained the largest per-capita loss of any community in the US during the Normandy invasion and is home to the national monument honoring the Allied Forces.

“Bedford is a neat little town with a history of sacrifice,” said Mike Whiteside as he shared the experience with his son.  “I am ex-Navy, Robert is ex-Navy, my parents are ex-military and my family and my family was in The War.

It was good to have Grayson and Tay there because they are the next generation and they need to remember,” he added.

Salvage Dawgs chronicles the adventures of Robert Kulp and Mike Whiteside, owners of Virginia-based Black Dog Salvage. Each episode leaves audiences laughing, inspired, and amazed as they stay just ahead of the wrecking ball to reclaim a wide range of vintage architectural elements and oddities. The salvaged materials go in a dazzling number of directions, from being incorporated into new “old” houses to being transformed into one-of-a-kind furniture and art featured on their warehouse floor and website.

“We are saving America, one house part at a time,” said owner Robert Kulp. “It’s satisfying to know that these architectural treasures will live on and be appreciated across the country.”

Throughout the series, Kulp strives to run a tight ship with his eye on the bottom line -- while spirited Whiteside wreaks havoc, tearing through old homes and buildings – finding treasure in the most unexpected places and making things happen – even under the most challenging circumstances.

Airs on DIY Network Sunday, July 12 at 9pm EST.  Check local listings for details.
