The New on-line acution collection of never before worn boutique clothing resulting from Mayor Willie Brown's Call to action at the annual Goodwill Donate-a-thon, will help fund more job opportunities.

San Francisco-Maureen Sedonaen, CEO of Goodwill Industries, San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin and Goodwill Board of Directors will host a reception on July 16th launching the Dr. Maxine Hickman San Francisco National Coalition of 100 Black Women Collection inspired by former San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr.

“Goodwill generates donations into jobs and we are so pleased that more people will be supported by Dr. Hickman’s $25,000 gift in answer to the call to action by Mayor Brown at our annual Donate-a-thon," said Maureen Sedonaen.

“Thank you Dr. Hickman for your generous donation and I hope it will inspire other groups to help Goodwill with its great mission of give a dignified pathway out of poverty,” said Mayor Brown. “It’s good to know that getting up at zero dark thirty on New Year’s Eve for the all day Goodwill Donate-a-thon Party pays off!”

December 31st, as people prepare to “ring out the old and ring in the new” by clearing out their closets, has become Goodwill’s biggest day for donation collection that yields donors their last tax break of the year.  The event this past year included Mayor Willie Brown and his collection, the Goodwill House Band, SF Cheerleaders, the San Francisco Boys Choir, Zoo Tickets to donors and more.  Donors are entertained as they drop off their donations.

“As I downsized my boutique business and remembered Mayor’s Brown’s call to action, Goodwill became the perfect solution to strategically give and benefit community,” said Dr. Hickman.  “I call upon other women’s organizations and men’s as well to collectively act to make a difference for Goodwill that is sustainably helping move the lives of people forward in a positive way.”

The reception will be held in the atrium of the Goodwill Training Center, 1500 Mission Street in San Francisco, from 6-8 p.m. where guests will enjoy light refreshments, view samples of the collection and have an opportunity to participate in the on-line auction of the collection.

Media are invited to view the Goodwill in action at the training center, collection site and stores prior to the reception.  Maureen Sedonaen, CEO of Goodwill San Francisco, San Mateo and Marin, Dr. Hickman, President of the San Francisco National Coalition of 100 Black Women, and special guests will be on hand for interviews.

The reception announcing the Dr. Maxine Hickman San Francisco National Coalition of 100 Black Women Collection is truly a party with a purpose as the collection will help fund Goodwill’s mission.  Goodwill funds job training and placement programs giving local people a second chance and a dignified path out of poverty. Goodwill places more than 600 people in local jobs annually.  Goodwill diverts over 21 million pounds of materials from local as a result of donations like Dr. Hickman and Mayor Brown’s collections.
