GOLD COAST, Australia - July 8, 2015 - PRLog -- It is with outmost pride and pleasure for Indigenous Conference Service (ICS) to announce the latest update for the upcoming 2015 National Indigenous SAY NO to Domestic & Family Violence Conference to be held on 7th – 9th October at the Mercure Gold Coast Resort in Queensland. Guest speakers and agenda had been finalized however, we’ve been informed by the Mercure that there is a high probability that renovations to the venue will be finished and extra break out rooms should become available. As such, we are presently calling for expression of interest (EOI) for reserve papers which may be utilized if space becomes available. This is a limited time offer only. Expected cap of twelve (12) papers can be accepted. It is pleasing to see the high calibre of deadly speakers with both national and international delegations which is only surpassed by the interests shown in our events.

Since the establishment of this conference four years ago, it quickly became a benchmark for other conferences to aspire to. As a special one off offer for delegates who attend this year’s conference on the Gold Coast, we are prepared to offer delegates a 50% discount off the registration fees for the upcoming Global First Nations and Indigenous Peoples Conference which is scheduled to be held at the Stamford Grand Adelaide on the 14th - 16th September 2016.

As this year’s conference is well subscribed, we urge interested parties to visit the conference website or complete the submit-a-paper form online. Registration numbers are also filling fast; hence, we encourage anyone who wishes to attend the conference to register as soon as possible. More than 60% of the accepted papers are from community-based organizations and 80% of our resource speakers are coming from all states and territories of Australia. This conference was previously held in Cairns, the Gold Coast and has been slotted as a bi-annual event. It is envisaged that up to a thousand delegate will attend this year’s event.

Furthermore, one of our international guest speakers is Helen Potiki, Tapuika, Te Arawa, Ngāi Tahu and Ngāti Porou. Helen is a Principal Policy Analyst at the Ministry for Women, New Zealand and specialises in violence against women with a specific focus on primary prevention and what works to keep Māori women safe from becoming victims of intimate partner and sexual violence.  She is a member of expert advisory groups on primary prevention of violence against women and the Ministry’s lead analyst for maintaining New Zealand’s international obligations on the status of women. In 2014, Helen was a delegate to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York.

One of the featured speakers is Jacqueline Burke, a registered psychologist and the Clinical Director of Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia. She previously held an academic position with the University of New England and pioneered the Rape & Domestic Violence Services Australia’s award winning Vicarious Trauma Management Program. In her current role, Jacqueline oversees a team of 70 counselling professionals and is responsible for clinical, research and training programs of the organisation.

Similarly Jan Sky, a behaviour change specialist, author, consultant as well as a psychotherapist and coach will be presenting a paper entitled, Navigate the social landscape of your brain. Jan has taught the ESI Mapping tool with great success to prison in-mates throughout NSW (often perpetrators of family violence); in family and domestic violence workshops to healthcare professionals in Australia and New Zealand; and also in Finland.

Jo Bryant, CEO of Protect All Children Today Inc. (PACT) will also be co-presenting with Mr. Peter Ferguson, Regional Coordinator of Victim Assist Queensland about the Thursday Island Court Support Project which is an initiative of local Thursday Island Agencies, the Queensland Government and Protect All Children Today Inc. (PACT) in response to the need for vulnerable children and young people in the Torres Strait to receive culturally appropriate court support on Thursday Island.

Maxine Goldie, Aboriginal Advisor for Family Relationship Australia will be presenting a paper entitled, Life after Love. Maxine is a Bundjalung woman trained in martial arts, worked in various roles at women refuge centres and youth shelters in Northern Territory as well as a Board Member, represented the National Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Women’s Alliance (NATSIWA) to the United Nations Forum in New York where about 6,000 women from around the globe came together to write a paper for the elimination of violence against women and girls.

It is so pleasing to see both government and non-government organizations participating in choosing the agenda and as delegates as well. For after all, this conference is about sharing of information on successful family violence programs existing and being implemented all around the globe and encouraging inter-agency networking either at a local, state and national level.

We encourage anyone interested in attending the conference to register early as numbers are filling fast. We’ve structured our registration in such a way that will save organization's money while at the same time providing a great forum for frank and open discussion.
