Culture In Counseling Campaign

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - July 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Breaking Through the Invisible Boundaries of Mental Health in the Haitian/Caribbean Community

- Mental illness carries a negative stigma that depilates those who suffer internally to be fearful of seeking help to assist them with the uncertain emotions and feelings that take over their mind, body and soul. Many people have mental health concerns from time to time. But a mental health concern becomes a mental illness when ongoing signs and symptoms cause frequent stress and affect an ability to function.

There is a growing awareness about the importance of good mental health for the economic well-being of the nation. Recent research shows that minorities mental health needs are largely unmet, they are underrepresented in mental health research, and they tend to have mental health problems that are more persistent. Dr. Florence Saint-Jean has officially launched Global Trauma Research Inc., a company’s whose goal is to increase access to culturally competent trauma counseling services to underserved minority populations. Many people around the world are suffering from traumatic experiences and don’t even know it! Dr. Florence Saint-Jean’s vision is to break through the invisible boundaries of mental health with underrepresented groups and developing countries.

Under Dr. Saint-Jean’s leadership, trauma trainings are conducted in Haiti and Pakistan; services are now being offered in Brooklyn, NY. GTR is open to the public and offering culturally competent trauma informed counseling.

In order to rehabilitate from psychological and emotional trauma, you must face and resolve the unbearable feelings and memories long avoided. Otherwise they will return again and again, unbidden and uncontrollable. To heal, it is important to not isolate; stay grounded; and take care of your health.

GTR has been operating for 2 years, and will produce an official launch of its services to the public on Friday, July 10, 2015; at The Victorian Mansion on 247 Hancock Street. Brooklyn, NY 11216 at 6:30pm. All are invited!
