Follow on Google News | Smith Village invites neighbors to annual Dog Days Pet ParadeSmith Village invites local pets and their owners to compete in, or just enjoy, the community’s annual “Dog Days of Summer Pet Parade” at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 17, on the Smith Village Green along 112th Place just east of S, Western Ave.
By: Smith Village “Pets draw us together and warm our hearts,” says Marti Jatis, executive director of Smith Village and a cat lover. “Several pets reside here at Smith Village with their owners. We welcome family’s friendly four-legged visitors for our residents as well.” Since 2007, the pet parade has gained popularity with children and adults in surrounding neighborhoods. In addition to dogs, cats, snakes, birds and guinea pigs, a goat has participated in previous events. Contest judges impose no special criteria, but three pets will receive awards. All other pets will receive “doggy bags” for participating. Dog biscuits and water bowls will be provided for canines. People refreshments will include cool beverages, pet-themed treats and cookies. Pet owners are invited to brag about what makes their pets so special on application forms available at both Smith Village reception desks. If you would like to participate, the registration forms must be turned in by Friday, July 10. All pets must be kept on a leash or in appropriate containers.
