BALLYGAWLEY, Northern Ireland - July 7, 2015 - PRLog -- Thirty teams from all over Northern Ireland are revving up their bangers to drive 200 miles in a weekend in a bid to win the coveted Rusty Nuts Rally trophy this autumn.

The rally, in cars worth £500 or less, will take place from September 11 to 13 and take in Co Antrim, Mid-Ulster and Co Down to raise much-needed cash for Cancer Focus Northern Ireland.

Organisers Hannah Rodgers and Kieran O’Neill said: “We’re very pleased to be running the Rusty Nuts Charity Banger Rally for a second year. Last year we raised over £14,000 and this year we hope to top that.

“The Rusty Nuts Rally originated to highlight and raise funds for prostate and testicular cancer. We chose Cancer Focus NI this year as they provide a much-needed Man Van health check service for the local community. We’re very grateful to Todds Leap, in Ballygawley, for sponsoring the event.

“We had an absolute ball last year and we’re all looking forward to an action-packed weekend.”

Suzanne O’Loughlin, Community Fundraising Officer, Cancer Focus NI, said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been chosen to benefit from this exciting rally and we’re looking forward to a buzzing weekend full of craic.

“Every year in Northern Ireland around 4,500 men are diagnosed with cancer. That’s a startling statistic considering that about half of all cancers can be prevented by making healthier lifestyle choices.

“The money raised by the rally will help us continue funding our Man Van, which brings lifesaving messages to our local community and workplaces, helping to lower the risk of cancer.

“Men can have their body composition and measurements assessed, blood pressure and blood glucose checked, and get one-to-one advice.”

Suzanne added: “We’re really looking forward to seeing local communities coming together to support the teams and I can’t wait to see the car décor!”

Benny O’Hanlon, owner of Todds Leap Outdoor Activity Centre in Northern Ireland, said: “We are delighted to be official sponsors of the Rusty Nuts Rally and our own team is working to bring their own banger up to scratch for the big day. We are looking forward to putting the teams through their paces during the challenges here at Todds Leap to earn their points.”

Benny added: “This also gives us an excellent opportunity to help raise funds for a local cancer charity here in Northern Ireland and raise awareness of men’s health too.” If you’d like further information on the rally please email nibangerrally@gmail.com.

Anyone who has concerns about cancer can speak to a specialist nurse on the Cancer Focus NI free helpline, 0800 783 3339.
