SAVANNAH, Ga. - July 6, 2015 - PRLog -- Rick Monroe, owner of Monroe Marketing, was installed Monday as President of the Rotary Club of Savannah. Monroe accepted the Rotary gavel from outgoing president Holden Hayes, Regional President of South State Bank.

Joining Monroe in leading the club through its 102nd year in Savannah are Secretary/Treasurer Diana Morrison, Sergeant at Arms Craig Harney, and 2015-2016 Board of Directors members Rick Belford, Scott Center, Trey Cook, Eddie Culver, John Helmken, Stratton Leopold, Sam McCachern, Jamie McCurry, Chuck Powell, Cecilia Russo, and Philip Solomons, Jr.

“As president, my vision or mission is to ensure that members who come to Rotary every Monday will leave feeling encouraged, uplifted, and glad they were there,” Monroe said. “Holden did a wonderful job as president and I thank him for all he has done for the club and our community. We will do our best to try to continue and expand those efforts.”

Monroe grew up in Meridian, Mississippi and attended the University of Georgia, where he graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Journalism with a major in Advertising in 1975. He opened his marketing firm in 1988, and has been operating in Savannah for 27 years now. The firm offers a range of marketing services including video production, TV, radio, print, direct mail, outdoor advertising and digital marketing.

Monroe has volunteered for Savannah Young Life since 1975 and now acts as a member of the Young Life Committee. He also serves as an elder at Savannah Christian Church where he leads a middle school small group each week and leads a home group at the Landings.

During his professional career, Monroe has been recognized with several awards and distinctions, including: winner of over 45 ADDY Awards from the Savannah Advertising Federation for excellence in advertising; winner of 10 national awards for advertising in the pest control and private college industries; recipient of the Silver Medal and Hadley Cammack Awards through the Savannah Advertising Federation for achievement in local advertising; received the ARCH Award from the President’s Office of the University of Georgia for volunteer work with youth of Savannah; recipient of the Outstanding Young Layman Award by the Savannah Jaycees; recipient of the 1999 “Small Business of the Year” Award presented by the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce; recipient of the Helen Head Small Business Advocate Award in 2004 by the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce; and the Buy Local Savannah “Business Advocate of the Year” 2008.

During Holden’s year as president, the club completed construction of a playground in Forsyth Park which is also accessible for children with disabilities. The project was part of the club’s Centennial Celebration which began in 2014. Under his leadership, the club earned a “Gold Club” award, the highest achievement a club can earn for a variety of service projects and other community efforts.

The Rotary Club of Savannah was organized Jan. 12, 1914 and has 213 members. Meetings are held most Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., at the DeSoto Hilton Hotel, 15 E. Liberty Street.
