Follow on Google News | Thousands Gather for Amarnath Yatra 2015Amarnath Yatra started on 2nd July 2015, was personally flagged off by the State Health Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Chowdhary Lal Singh.
By: India Pilgrim Tours "Amarnath Yatra began from Jammu today. A batch of 1,280 pilgrims have left from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu this morning for their onward journey to the 3,888 meters high cave shrine of Amarnath in Kashmir Valley," as said by Dr Piyush, Yatra officer and Additional Deputy Commissioner Jammu. Amarnath is a 12,750 ft Himalayan cave shrine in the south Kashmir region of India. The high altitude shrine can be reached via south Kashmir Pahalgam and north Kashmir Baltal route. For the convenience of the pilgrims, the Amarnath Shrine board has set up two base camps-one at Pahalgam and other at Baltal. In order to avoid any militant attack of the past, a three-tier security arrangement has been made to safeguard the Yatra this year. Under this, a combined effort from the army, central paramilitary forces and the state police has been put into action. In an attempt to make the journey divine on all standards, the shrine board has come up with the idea of absolute banishment on carrying alcohol, aerated drinks and fast food in the Yatra. However, one can carry necessary items like mineral water, fruit juices and biscuits.
