A Review Site and Reference Guide to Safe Spaces to eliminate discrimination and harassment towards the LGBTQ+ Community

WASHINGTON - July 3, 2015 - PRLog -- Queer Review Gives A Voice to the LGBTQ+ Community with a Peer-Reviewed Guide To Businesses, Per Location

Washington, D.C. (July 1, 2015) — Queer Review LLC is launching MyQueerReview.com on Monday, July 20th, a platform used to eradicate unsafe environments for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer individuals in any city. Queer Review will empower users with the first and only tool of its kind. Users will review and discover safe places and business locations based on experiences of LGBTQ+ visitors. Reviews address concerns pertinent to visitors, allowing members of the community to know before they go.

The platform provides LGBTQ+ individuals (and allies) with the crowdsourced reputation of businesses and locations, and allows them to contribute by sharing their experience and rating the environment. The analytics that make up the “environment” have been bundled under 4 categories: The Scene, The Crowd, The Service, and The Bathrooms. These categories address the most importance aspects of Safe Spaces to the LGBTQ+ community as pooled from various stories of discrimination, discomfort, and hatred experienced by peers.

While the LGBTQ+ movement is becoming more visible, as evidenced by the Supreme Court ruling in favor of marriage equality, we must make it a priority to recognize the struggles that our community faces on a day-to-day basis. LGBTQ+ Americans face a harsh reality:

· Nearly 90% of LGBT students reported facing verbal harassment due to their sexual orientation in 2013, according to GLSEN.

· 42% of LGBT Youth say the community they live in is not accepting of LGBT people, according to the HRC’s report Growing Up LGBT in America.

· LGBT Youth are 2X as likely as their peers to have been physically assaulted, kicked, or shoved at school. [HRC]

· Roughly 73% of LGBT Youth say they are more honest about themselves online than in the real world. [HRC]

· In 2013, 21% of reported hate crimes were accounted for by bias against sexual orientation and gender identity, according to the FBI.

· Seven transgender women of color were murdered in the United States during January and February 2015, according to the Southern Poverty Law Center.

· While 22 states have passed laws making job discrimination due to sexual orientation illegal — 19 also include gender identity — LGBT workers still lack federal protection.

MyQueerReview.com is the first and only resource used to pinpoint safe environments on a per-location basis for the LGBTQ+ community and their supportive allies — Queer Review is set to be an evolving tool that will help keep the community safe and allow places to change policies and procedures to make their spaces more inclusive.
