GARDEN CITY, N.Y. - July 2, 2015 - PRLog -- For the eleventh year in a row, the Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of Education is partnering with best-selling author Alice Hoffman to host the Alice Hoffman Young Writers Retreat for high school juniors in the area. The selective program runs from Monday, July 20 to Friday, July 24. All participants receive a full program scholarship which includes tuition, materials, and daily lunch.

The program is run by Adelphi faculty and English Education graduate students together with visiting writers. Approximately 30 exceptional high school writers will experience a weeklong schedule of intensive writing workshops. The program includes visual art exercises, performance works, and talks by guest artists in addition to other writing activities. Throughout the week, students will have the opportunity to interact with Adelphi faculty, graduate students, and accomplished writers and artists.

Hoffman ’73 published her first novel Property Of while studying under a Mirrellees Fellowship at the Stanford University Creative Writing Center. She received her M.A. in creative writing in 1974 and has since published over twenty-one novels, three books of short fiction, and eight books for children and young adults.

To date, Hoffman has authored 23 novels, 3 books of short fiction and 8 books for young adults. Her works frequently top best-seller lists and have been hailed as notable books of the year by The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, Library Journal and People Magazine.

Hoffman’s work has also been adapted for film and television.  Her best-seller Practical Magic was made into a feature film starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman, and her much-praised 2011 historical novel, The Dovekeepers, was turned into a recently broadcast popular CBS miniseries. Hoffman’s work as a screenwriter includes the screenplay for the film Independence Day starring Kathleen Quinlan, David Keith and Dianne Wiest.

Hoffman currently resides in Boston. Her latest work, The Marriage of Opposites, is set to be released in August 2015.
