Shea McGrath Denver Photographer Welcomes Increase in Same-Sex Weddings Now Legal in US

DENVER - July 1, 2015 - PRLog -- The United States became the twenty-first country to legalize same-sex marriages last Friday. Shea McGrath, Denver, CO wedding photographer, noted, “We will soon see an increase of engagement announcements and plans for wedding ceremonies. I have already received several inquiries. This is truly an exciting time when all citizens of our country will have marriage equality.”

Many same-sex wedding include customs considered traditional and some are unique to the LGBTQ community. A recent study sponsored by Gay Market Research, asked which traditions were followed, where couples found their team of wedding vendors, the size of their wedding party, and honeymoons). The study is the widest-reaching wedding study of same-sex couples ever conducted, and the results reflect the diversity of the LGBTQ community.

Overall, same-sex couples are quite nontraditional in their wedding planning. The LGBTQ community does not come from a tradition of marriage, which allows nontraditional ways to celebrate. One finding is gay men and lesbians plan ceremonies very differently. In every category tested, female same-sex couples were more likely to participate in "wedding ceremony traditions" than male same-sex couples. For example, 66 percent of women purchase engagement rings, compared with 19 percent of men. Also, female same-sex couples are far more likely to follow wedding traditions such as having rehearsal dinners or first dances at the reception.
