July 1, 2015 - PRLog -- Mammalian FIS1 is generally thought of as one of three types of recruitment factors responsible for localizing the mitochondrial fission mediator Drp1 to the mitochondrial outer membrane. While not the primary recruiter of Drp1, it does appear to function in a sequential manner with other fission players and is involved in both apoptosis and mitophagy. Recent exciting data has identified microRNA-mediated control of FIS1 expression influencing chemosensitivity of some cancers to particular therapeutic agents.
