Follow on Google News | Local Planner Facilitates Grant to Educate Low Income YouthPortland Nonprofit receives funds to help financial literacy education during formative years
Financial Beginnings , a Portland-based nonprofit that provides no-cost financial education to youth and adults in Oregon and Washington, has been awarded a $4,000 grant by Million Dollar Round Table (MDRT) Foundation. The grant will help to educate about 285 low-income and underserved youth in Oregon in basic persoanal finance skills. MDRT member Damon Winter, LUTCF,CFS, a financial planner with OnMark Asset Management and a long time supporter of Financial Beginnings, sponsored the grant. "Our focus is on financial planning at OnMark Asset Management, so we truly recognize that having a strong footing in financial literacy provides people a leg up," Mr. Winter said at the April 21 check presentation. "It gives us great pleasure to sponsor the grant from the MDRT Foundation so that Financial Beginnings can continue to be a beacon of financial learning." Financial Beginnings' programs teach individuals, and primarily K-12 youth, how to access and participate in their financial health, how to make informed and considered decisions about their finances, and how to responsibly manage money to protect and build their assets.
