EL CERRITO, Calif. - June 30, 2015 - PRLog -- A New Myth for the World, the latest and tenth book by author James Hilgendorf has been published and is now available on Amazon.com in both e-book and paperback format.

The book is about the stories and myths we live under - which we have lived under for millennia - and the story of a new myth and religion which has taken shape in our world today, examplified most clearly by the emergence of the Soka Gakkai International, the largest Buddhist lay organization in the world now, with 12,000,000 members in 192 countries and territories around the globe.  The Soka Gakkai has been called the most dynamic and empowering Buddhist movement in history - one that is changing our very concept of religion itself.

Religion is a way of looking at and interacting with reality, and the book takes a good hard look at the histories of our mainline Western religions - Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

Historical research and the advent of science during the last few centuries has undermined the credibility of religion in many peoples' eyes - so much so that roughly twenty-five percent of the population in the United States now identify themselves as the followers of no religion at all.  These are the growing ranks of the "nones", which includes atheists, agnostics, humanists and others who now prefer to look to science and reason as the foundations for their world outlooks.

But science itself, as Hilgendorf points out, has revealed the quantum world of electrons and bosons, strings and quarks - a world that is strange indeed as measured by our standards of reason and common sense.  What science is revealing is a participatory universe, one which is deeply interconnected, and which opens up boundless new vistas about our own individual relationship to the cosmos itself.

The new myth is the Lotus Sutra, a fantastical tale about Shakyamuni Buddha - the historical Buddha in India - which has transformed millions of lives around the globe, and become the basis of the phenomenal growth of the Soka Gakkai in the world today.

James Hilgendorf is the author of ten non-fiction books.  He is also a highly-acclaimed filmmaker and documentary producer.  He has been a member of the Soka Gakkai International for forty-three years.
