Hike it Baby Celebrates the Outdoors on National Trails Day

Hike it Baby and Superfeet help American Hiking Society get families on the trails

PORTLAND, Ore. - June 27, 2015 - PRLog -- Hike it Baby listed over 130 hikes on the American Hiking Society’s calendar and logged over 1600 hikers, big and small, on National Trails Day, June 6, 2015. Superfeet, a leading designer and manufacturer of over-the-counter insoles, sponsored nearly 100 Hike it Baby branches in honor of American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day®, which occurs annually on the first Saturday in June. Superfeet Worldwide Inc. provided supportive premium insoles to all of Hike it Baby’s branch leaders, and donated a pair to give away on each of the branch’s hikes scheduled for that day.

Hike it Baby is an international organization dedicated to getting families out on the trails with newborns, toddlers, and children, and is the vision of Shanti Hodges, a 43-year-old first time mom from Portland, Oregon. “It was so much fun to be a part of American Hiking Society’s National Trails Day and a great way to kick off our summer,” says Hodges, who founded the group in July 2013. “We knew our group would love hiking on the same day, but it was great to see how many new people came out to hike with us!”

“We had 46 people from the age of 11 weeks to 84 years old hike with us on National Trails Day,” says Annie Fortunato, the Branch Leader for Hike it Baby Ann Arbor. “That was the largest group we’ve ever had hiking together here. It was incredible to see the connections that were made that day.”

Nearly 100 Hike it Baby groups across the country promoted the 23rd annual American Hiking Society National Trails Day by hosting free hikes. National Trails Day® is a nationally recognized trail awareness program that occurs on the first Saturday of June and inspires the public to discover, learn about, and celebrate trails while participating in outdoor activities and trail stewardship projects.
