LEAVENWORTH, Wash. - June 26, 2015 - PRLog -- “Bigger and better,” is how Simply Living Farm co-owner Nancy Bartholomew describes the 2015 Leavenworth Sustainable Living and Farming Tour.

“The 2014 Tour was a big success. We asked all attendees how to make it better for this year, and we listened. We’ve expanded the number of destinations by over 30%; we’ve added workshops to provide how-to information; and we have added new topics such as electric vehicles,” she continues.

“Last year we had lots of informal conversations on various sustainability topics, but this year we have formalized those conversations by hosting almost 20 workshops on topics such as raising bees, making organic soil, food fermentation, solar electric systems, goat milking, and many more.”

It is the mission of the hosts of the second annual Sustainable Living and Farming Tour to provide people with information and products that promote a simpler, more sustainable life. The Tour is intended to do just that by featuring people, places and businesses that are already doing it. “There is a famous quote that goes, ‘He who says it cannot be done should not get in the way of he that is already doing it.’ These people are already doing it – leading simpler, more sustainable lives – so come prepared to learn and be motivated!”

The 2015 Tour will have two hubs with lots of activity and information. The Wenatchee River Institute in downtown Leavenworth be one of those hubs with tours of their highly efficient building; scheduled workshops; displays; and on Saturday, a MarketPlace featuring sustainability related products, food and beverages.

Icicle Middle School, boasting its new solar electric array, will be the second hub, and will feature our Saturday morning keynote address by author, Paul Roberts (The End of Oil and The End of Food, and his latest book, The Impulse Society; America in the Age of Instant Gratification), three solar electric displays, and an electric vehicle display.

The Sustainable Living and Farming Tour will occur on Saturday and Sunday, September 12 and 13. Roberts’ presentation will be on Saturday morning at 9:00 AM.

“Like last year, there are straw bale houses; residences with grid-intertied solar electric systems; organic farms and gardens; chickens, bees, and alpacas. All of these are real inspirations and an education for people wanting to live a more sustainable life but needing more information.”

The self-guided tour consists of numerous destinations in the greater Leavenworth area. “If you want to get information and inspiration for how to lead a more sustainable life, this is a great opportunity to do so. It will be a lot of fun and will include some spectacular scenery,” Bartholomew adds.

Simply Living Farm is working in partnership with Wenatchee River Institute, a non-profit organization located in Leavenworth.
