Great Glen Charcuterie Celebrate Shortlist Success for Major Award

Lochaber business, Great Glen Charcuterie is among 38 businesses across the Highlands, Islands and Cairngorms National Park area to have been shortlisted for the Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards.

ROY BRIDGE, U.K. - June 26, 2015 - PRLog -- The company’s entry was among a record-breaking 100 entries to this year’s awards (a 39% increase on last year).  The Highlands & Islands Food & Drink Awards are now in their 11th year and include 13 categories ranging from the Young Shining Star and Restaurant of the Year to Export and Healthier Food & Drink.

Speaking as she received the good news about their shortlist success, Anja Baak said:

“We are absolutely delighted to be shortlisted for not only one but two awards. It is great to see our hard work and achievements being recognised by the judges and we look forward to the awards ceremony in October.”

Great Glen Charcuterie is based in the Highlands of Scotland. It was established in 2003 by Jan Jacob Baak. He started producing smoked venison made with prime cuts of local wild venison. Over the years he has developed new innovative products such as Chorizo, Pepperoni, Salami and a Bresaola all made with sustainably sourced local wild venison.

Their products are sold in delicatessens across the UK including Fortnum&Mason’s, Wholefoods, The House of Bruar and used by Michelin starred chefs.

With its lean meat, low cholesterol and low calorie, the wild venison products are proving very popular by customers and chefs and fit into a healthy lifestyle.

The company has seen it’s turnover increased by 25% in the last year. Great Glen Charcuterie Venison Salami is currently being served at the British Pavilion during the Expo in Milan, Italy as part of their Grown in Britain offering.

Judging for the awards took place last week at The Storehouse near Evanton with a panel of 13 judges examining the entries and tasting produce from across the Highlands and Islands and Cairngorms National Park.

With 2015 marked across Scotland as the Year of Food and Drink, this year’s awards look set to be higher profile than ever before.  Gordon & MacPhail, one of the UK’s leading independent wine, spirit and whisky wholesalers, is headline sponsor.

Full details of all the awards can be found at www.hifoodanddrinkawards.com.
