Pathways to Hampton Area STEM Careers

The Teacher Roundtable sponsored by CEE, Capital One, Claude Moore Charitable Foundation, ExxonMobil, MeadWestvaco Foundation, and Micron Foundation is being hosted by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium for secondary school teachers.

MCLEAN, Va. - June 25, 2015 - PRLog -- The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) invites secondary school teachers in the Hampton area to participate in CEE’s Teacher Enrichment Program Teacher Roundtable. TEP Teacher Roundtables serve as a forum for secondary school STEM educators to engage and network with leaders in STEM fields.  This event is being hosted by the Virginia Space Grant Consortium.

The panel will feature the following speakers:

·       Abigail Epes, Program Manager, Lockheed Martin

·       Lauren Hamburg, Augmented Reality Engineer, Newport News Shipbuilding

·       Gordon Sproat, Career Pathways Representative, Newport News Shipbuilding

·       Chris Carter, Deputy Director, Virginia Space Grant Consortium

The panel “Pathways to Hampton Area STEM Careers” will focus on the many different ways students can find fulfilling and meaningful careers in high-need STEM fields.  The aim of the Roundtable is to help teachers inspire and motivate students by showing them how many 21st century STEM possibilities are “out there” for them.The speakers will provide information on local STEM career opportunities for students, speakers’ experiences in their fields, and the ways in which teachers can excite students about STEM careers and help guide them as they make future plans.

The Center for Excellence in Education (CEE) was founded in 1983 by Joann P. DiGennaro, President of the Center and the late Admiral H.G. Rickover. The Center's mission is to nurture high school and university scholars to careers of excellence and leadership in science, technology, engineering and mathematics, and to encourage collaboration between and among leaders in the global community.
