During June, Nissan of Keene is collecting food donations for the Keene Community Kitchen

KEENE, N.H. - June 25, 2015 - PRLog -- Many children get their only healthy meal while in school. Summer is here and the need for donation is high. Please help us support the Keene Community Kitchen. During the Month of June, Nissan of Keene is filling a Nissan Commercial Vehicle with food donations. We will then drive the Nissan van to the Keene Community Kitchen to drop off the donations. Items needed include: Cereal, fruit cups, jelly, granola bars, baby food, breakfast bars, crackers, juice boxes, baby formula, diapers and wipes, canned tuna/ chicken, and peanut butter.

After operating out of the churches for many years TCK finally had to admit that the inconvenience of moving every pot and pan around pointed in one direction—they needed a permanent home of their own. In 1994 the building on Mechanic Street was purchased and renovations began. The Pantry and Hot Meals Program began operating fully in their new home in 1998. Over the years our numbers have grown and in 2013 we served 518,042 meals to 9,079 Cheshire County residents.

We now operate three programs – the Pantry Program distributes food weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Clients are verified annual by their income and residence. The Hot Meals Program serves a free meal six days a week, an evening meal on weekdays and a lunch on Sundays. Our Gleaning Program was started in 2013 and in the first year brought nearly 25,000lbs of farm and garden fresh produce into our other programs.

Their Gleaning Program has enabled them to partner with other agencies and businesses within Cheshire County and for the 2014 season they have 6 community garden sites growing produce specifically for them at the Kitchen. They strive to guide their guests and clients to make better food choices and partner with other agencies offering cooking workshops, classes and recipes.

The Community Kitchen continues to thrive as an organization largely because of the wonderful, dedicated volunteers who give their time, perhaps the most valuable donation of all.
