LOS ANGELES - June 24, 2015 - PRLog -- LOS ANGELES, CA (June 24, 2015) – Trevor Ariza of the Houston Rockets returned to his hometown Los Angeles this past Saturday, June 21 to kick-off his first annual community initiative at Cleveland High School in Reseda, CA, – commencing with the Trevor Ariza & Friends Celebrity Charity Basketball Game. The tournament was one of two events hosted by the former Laker over the weekend as a catalyst to raise awareness for his new youth-based charity, Ariza Elevated Game Awards. The weekend culminated on Father’s Day, with the Ariza Elevated Game Awards luncheon, hosted by TV producer Mack Hodges (MTV, Nickelodeon) at Braemar Country Club in Tarzana, CA.

Game time was at 3:30pm, but by 2:30pm on Saturday, the Cleveland High School gym was already a packed house filled with fans, families, VIPs, and media there to watch the interactive hoop match and accompanying antics which encompassed action, sports and entertainment rolled in one. Half-time featured a shooting contest and gave away an authentic autographed Ariza jersey, followed by a kids dance contest with giveaways, and a live performance by actor/singer Kendre Berry (Girlfriends, Hands of God). Another ongoing musical treat was hearing America’s Hottest Kid DJ Kiss spin for the duration of the event.

Trevor headlined as coach of his team alongside assistant coach DJ Eque, facing off against music mogul Steve Lobel’s team and assistant coach Danielle Frost. TEAM ARIZA’s star-studded line-up included the likes of Terrell Owens (Former NFL star), Dexter Darden (Maze Runner, Joyful Noise), Casper Smart (Actor, Choreographer), Maurice “Moe” Ager (Former NBA player), Laura Govan (Basketball Wives), Leslie Small (Film Director/Producer), and VH1’s Hit the Floor stars Robert Christopher Riley and Adam Senn. TEAM LOBEL shined with celebs like Romeo Miller, Dean Cain (, James Anderson (Dallas Cowboy LB), Layzie Bone (Bone Thugs n’ Harmony), BJ Britt (Being Mary Jane, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Andra Fuller (Black Jesus, The Game), Kenny Hamilton (Celebrity Influencer, Dash Radio), and Mechelle Epps (Actress).

Though Team Lobel may have taken home the victory with a one point lead of 83-82, players took home gift bags filled with top of the line items donated by premiere lifestyle brands including Zirh skin care, MyVice Sweats Collection, Copperwear, and the very plush Cabeau Travel Pillow. Each player also received a brand new pair of Kobe Bryant or LeBron James shoes to play in, sponsored by Nike. More sponsors for the overall event were Buffalo Wild Wings, Raymond James, BeeSurge, with beverages provided by Neuro Drink and Mark Wahlberg’s new water, AquaHydrate.

ABOUT ARIZA ELEVATED GAME AWARDS

The Ariza Elevated Game Awards is a non-profit organization founded by NBA world champion Trevor Ariza. The organization hosts an annual ceremony dedicated to honoring high school seniors who have performed at an elite level both in the classroom and on the field in sports. The very first annual award program is slated for Sunday, June 21, 2015 in Los Angeles and will be the very first award ceremony to honor high school students not only for their excellence in classes and in their sports, but also for their bravery in overcoming the obstacles they’ve faced in their lives. The nonprofit awards program is designed to recognize male and female seniors in basketball, football, soccer, baseball, softball and volleyball.

“It’s going to be an amazing experience for these athletes — basically the high school version of the ESPY Awards” said Alex Parker, Executive Director of the Ariza Elevated Game Awards. “Many of these students have overcome so much pain and hardship in their lives to become tremendously successful, just as Trevor Ariza did. This is his way of giving back and showing kids that with enough hard work, anyone can elevate their game in all areas of life to become a true star.” For more information, visit ArizaElevatedGameAwards(dot)org.
