Punk's Performances Prompt Picture-Packed Pages

ALBANY, Ga. - June 24, 2015 - PRLog -- On October 28, 1935, a group of young actors from New York opened on Broadway at the Belasco Theatre in Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Sidney Kingsley's Dead End.  81 films and several decades later, Richard Roat chronicles their work in a massive new picture book.

Albany, Ga. – BearManor Media announces the release of Hollywood’s Made to Order Punks Part 3, The Faces of The Angels With Dirty Faces by Richard Roat.

In 1937, producer Samuel Goldwyn and director William Wyler imported six of the stage actors for United Artists’ Dead End film version. Their performances pleased audiences so much that their characters were written into nearly seven dozen sequels produced during the 1930s, 1940s, and 1950s as feature films and serials at Warner Bros., Universal Studios, and Monogram Pictures. Many actors appeared in the series, including Billy Halop, Bobby Jordan, Huntz Hall, Charles Duncan, Bernard Punsly, Gabriel Dell, Frankie Thomas, Billy Benedict, David Gorcey, and Leo Gorcey. Leading men appearing opposite the boys included James Cagney, Humphrey Bogart, John Garfield, Pat O'Brien, and Ronald Reagan, to name only a few.

Author Richard Roats chronicled the series about the boys, who were also known as the “Bowery Boys,” the “Little Tough Guys,” or the “East Side Kids.” His first two books explored the history of the films, Hollywood's Made-to-Order Punks: The Complete Film History of the Dead End Kids and Hollywood's Made-to-Order Punks Part 2, A Pictorial History of the Dead End Kids.

Now, the ultimate third edition in the trilogy brings you more than 1,000 photos in a stunning collection that captures the characters and films on and off the screen as only photographs can. Hollywood’s Made to Order Punks Part 3, The Faces of The Angels With Dirty Faces takes you through a treasure trove of images in a definitive masterwork compilation.
