South Florida Eleven Year Old Addresses Common Core Standards with New Book

June 25, 2015 - PRLog -- The Common Core language arts and literacy standards attempt to correct the fiction/nonfiction imbalance by placing more emphasis on reading nonfiction—starting with an equal emphasis on literature and informational text in elementary school. At nearly all grade levels, students are expected to develop research skills across content areas with a strong focus on nonfiction, including literary nonfiction.

Eleven year old Lexi Schwartzberg, author and creator of a new book, Lily Droplet's Amazing Adventure: The Water Cycle (ISBN: 978-0-99629-331-0), has teachers scrambling for her book as the ideal way to integrate required increases in nonfiction with young children.

After receiving an assignment in school to write about the water cycle from the point of view of a water droplet, Lily’s Adventure began. The talented young author quickly turned the one paragraph assignment into a full-length story, incorporating the science and lessons through dynamic and charming characters.  The illustrations are equally delightful. Lexi worked with her Aunt Danielle, an amazing and talented artist to illustrate the book.  The two worked together to capture the fun and interesting path of Lily Droplet’s Amazing Adventure.

During the course of the book, Lily experiences all the wonders of the water cycle. Lily Droplet’s Amazing Adventure teaches the concepts of evaporation, condensation, and precipitation; joining her along the journey are many friends and relatives, each with a unique personality expressed throughout the book.

Lexi Schwartzberg is building a strong following of young readers and educators worldwide, by sharing her creative talent and curiosity. Elements of the Common Core are addressed via informational text, making Lily’s Adventure a perfect complement to early STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) curriculum.
