Severe Fatigue and Muscle Spasms could be cause by this Major Disorder

June 23, 2015 - PRLog -- Fibromyalgia syndrome affects the muscles and soft tissue. Symptoms include chronic muscle pain, fatigue, sleep problems, and painful tender points or trigger points, which can be relieved through medications, lifestyle changes and stress management.

What Are Fibromyalgia Symptoms?

Fibromyalgia causes you to ache all over. You may have symptoms of crippling fatigue even after arising. Specific tender points on the body may be painful to touch. You may experience swelling, disturbances in deep-level or restful sleep, and mood disturbances or depression.

Your muscles may feel like they have been overworked or pulled. They'll feel that way even without exercise or another cause. Sometimes, your muscles twitch, burn, or have deep stabbing pain.

Some patients with fibromyalgia have pain and achiness around the joints in the neck, shoulder, back, and hips. This makes it difficult for them to sleep or exercise. Other fibromyalgia symptoms include:

- Abdominal pain

- Chronic headaches

- Dryness in mouth, nose, and eyes

- Hypersensitivity to cold and/or heat

- Inability to concentrate (called "fibro fog")

- Incontinence

- Irritable bowel syndrome

- Numbness or tingling in the fingers and feet

- Stiffness

Fibromyalgia can cause signs and feelings similar to osteoarthritis, bursitis, and tendinitis. Some experts include it in this group of arthritis and related disorders. However, while the pain of bursitis or tendinitis is localized to a specific area, pain and stiffness with fibromyalgia are widespread.

Fibromyalgia Treatment

The management of fibromyalgia is complex, but can be broken down into a number of parts. Treatment tries to help you slowly break the fibromyalgia cycle by addressing each of the points shown in the diagram above.

Understanding your pain and symptoms through education

- Having a good understanding of your symptoms and how your life has, and is, being affected by fibromyalgia is vitally important. Also having a good assessment of your painful areas can help reduce anxiety or concerns that you have an injury.

- Understanding the complex nature and cycles of pain can also help you address the impact fibromyalgia has on your life.

- Physiotherapy can help with both these aspects of understanding Fibromyalgia.

Exercise in moderation

Exercise, is an excellent way to help deal with stress and depression. Regular exercise also helps to improve eating and sleeping habits, which will lead to better general health, better mental health and less sleep deprivation.

- Activities such as hydrotherapy, tai chi, pilates, yoga, walking, swimming or cycling can benefit people with fibromyalgia

- stretching and mobility exercises can help reduce pain and tightness

- specific exercises to help build strength and endurance in the ‘posture’ muscles of the body, and take the load off achy muscles
