We spoke to Philip recently to gather additional details about his position and the challenges he faces on a daily basis.  What is expressed in the interview are his real-world experiences as a director of IT security, as well as his reasons for choosing OnPage for managing his critical system alerts.

OnPage:  “How did you first find out about the product and introduce it to the team?”

Philip explains:  “We were searching for something on the app store that would work.  We tried for years doing it on our own VOIP system and attempted to hack our on-call rotation without success. Other six-figure systems were not an option.

Since everyone has a smartphone we assumed that there had to be a better system out there.  We knew that cloud computing had become very reliable so we became comfortable moving forward with the cost-effective OnPage system.  OnPage is a specific system that does a specific thing that fits our needs. There was no wasted time with evaluations, budget discussions and learning curves. You just turn it on and GO.

 “What other messaging requirements were you looking for?”

We tried a couple of your competitors, including one that was specifically focused on the medical field.  IT has specific needs that are very different.  The medical app did not work for us and it was very confusing to use.

OnPage:  “Can you tell us about a recent success story?”

Philip said: “It’s all about efficiency. Since we use OnPage every day, we’re saving staff time by no longer having to maintain the on-call lists.  Previous to OnPage we had some of our service calls being dropped and the hand-off didn’t occur appropriately.

In our facilities if there’s an intrusion or a door alarm trips after hours it would ring down to a security company and they would dispatch our team. Now all our manager has to do is send out an email and we all get paged immediately.  We were able to save money by cancelling our ring down services for physical security intrusions.

The scheduling function is great too. We have four different departments with several on-call rotations groups. In the past we had to maintain a list of individuals that were on-call manually. A cumbersome spreadsheet was maintained on a week-to-week basis.  Who was on-call and what their phone numbers were became very confusing.  With OnPage we have saved a lot of time by no longer having to edit the spreadsheet which has resulted in a cost savings by eliminating several different inefficient and time consuming systems.

It’s nice to get rid of all that.  Your product was the solution we were looking for, it made our job easier and it works great!”
