Fastest Growing Team Sport Was Celebrated On and Off the Field at The 20th Annual Vail Lacrosse

Youth Lacrosse Teams Completed Four Days of Competition While Honing Their Skills and Building Self Confidence

VAIL, Colo. - June 22, 2015 - PRLog -- From June 15-18, 2015 approximately 100 youth lacrosse teams played over 336 games at the 20th Annual Vail Lacrosse Tournament.  With the picturesque backdrop of the Gore Range and Vail scenery, teams competed to win, improved their skills and bonded with friends and coaches both on and off the field.

The Vail Lacrosse Tournament provides young athletes the opportunity to compete and learn from the best, while building self-esteem, body awareness and developing pride in being strong athletes. These attributes are what bring players and coaches back year after year and attract new players from across the country.  The Alcatraz Outlaws of Piedmont, California attended the tournament for the first time this year where they played a tough final game in the U15 Boys division, with a final score of 9-8 to the DLC Saints.

“Compared to many tournaments, the level of competition is really high and that’s really attractive. It makes it challenging and exciting,” said Harvey Hyman, a parent of Alcatraz Outlaws. “We’re here all week doing all the Valley offers-rafting, hiking, biking, trail running and evening entertainment.”

Another highlight this year was the Vail Lacrosse Showcase. This selective individual recruiting event was attended by elite players that stood out during competition, and recruiters from D1, D2, D3 & MCLA programs such as Princeton, Cornell, Colorado College, Whittier, Drexel and Amherst. These top players where placed on teams and coached throughout the series of games. In addition, a positional coach was assigned to each respective position to communicate with the individual players, providing feedback as well as improvements suggested by the college recruiters.

In closing the tournament this year, tournament directors Kristen Foster and Mark Foster feel very proud of the players, coaches and the lacrosse community.  Kristen said, “This year we had 92 teams attend the 2015 Vail Lacrosse Tournament with 50% traveling outside the state of Colorado. It was a fun filled week with lots of sunshine and competitive lacrosse. The players built lasting memories and demonstrated a high level of sportsmanship on and off the field. It is a tournament put on for the kids and knowing they had a great time is what matters.”
