Norwegian Company Heads up Intranets for Mobile Takeover

LONDON - June 19, 2015 - PRLog -- After critics predicting the “death of the intranet” following the explosion of social media, cloud computing and SaaS communication products, the surge in adoption of smartphones and tablets in the past few years is breathing new life back into the internal comms tool. And one Norwegian start-up is riding the crest of the new wave of intranets.

New Intranet creates custom mobile intranets designed for distributed workforces, an approach popularised following the news of award-winning mobile intranet designs such as Barclays and Coca-Cola, both of which generated significant and quantifiable results in employee engagement and productivity.

The company has already landed contracts with two major global players in the construction industry and has more interest building.

Speaking with the CEO

In an interview, CEO Robin Dominik Havre explained how it’s the right time for a company like New Intranet.

“Prior to the launch of the original iPhone back in 2007, some critics are saying is going to fail. People just love to predict the “death” of this or that. But, if you look at statistics published by e-market and other top market research firms, mobile adoption in the US and Europe alike has been beyond huge.”

“People really love their smartphones, and adoption is still increasing. For industries like retail or construction where staff are typically spread out and don’t work in front of a computer, taking intranet mobile can give amazing results. Our early clients are the proof.”

Along with the launch, New Intranet has created blog with research-backed content designed to lend advice to HR managers and internal communications teams on how to better engage employees and boost return on investment from their intranets.

There’s a high production value e-book available and early subscribers will see a discounted price when the company officially launches later this year.

Industry data and quotes

The market research sector is filled with relevant information covering this shift in intranet dynamics. Good examples include:

A special report published by top usability scientists, Nielsen Norman Group states the importance of the "mobile-first" approach, and how to allow employee needs to drive mobile offerings”

eMarketer reported that “tablet adoption in the EU-5 continues to rise steadily, and according to new eMarketer estimates, the region’s tablet user base will surpass 100 million by the end of 2014. By 2018, more than 146 million people will use a tablet at least once per month.”

Another eMarketer report predicts “4.55 billion people worldwide to use a mobile phone in 2014. Mobile adoption is slowing, but new users in the developing regions of Asia-Pacific and the Middle East and Africa will drive further increases. Between 2013 and 2017, mobile phone penetration will rise from 61.1% to 69.4% of the global population
