Providing Safe Spaces For Our Children

YMCA Childcare & Camp Programs Offer Summertime Safe Haven For Kids

ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. - June 18, 2015 - PRLog -- Outside of school, children don’t always have a safe place to play and learn.

About 3 out of 4 of America’s schoolchildren do not participate in summer learning programs. This leads to boredom, lack of physical activity, too much screen time, and gaps in learning. The YMCA makes sure that children and teens have a space where they can be themselves, learn new skills, and make friends. Over 9 million kids take place in YMCA programs each year in the US, where they realize their potential to be thriving members of society.

The YMCA of Orange County provides youth camps and before and afterschool care across the county, offering safe spaces for children to grow and thrive.

YMCA programs promoting Youth Development include:

Overnight Resident Camp at Camp Oakes, Camp Elk, and Camp Irvine
Before and Afterschool Care for kids aged Kindergarten through Intermediate School
Summer, Spring, and Winter Day Camp
KidZone at YMCA fitness facilities, where children grow while their parents get healthy
Youth swimming classes designed to teach children water safety skills
Sports classes and leagues such as basketball and soccer
Youth and Government judicial education programs

Youth development is the social, emotional, cognitive, and physical processes that all youth uniquely experience from birth to career. A successful development process fulfills children and teens’ innate need to be loved, spiritually grounded, educated, competent, and healthy. The YMCA of Orange County provides safe, enriching places to kids when school is out.
