The Ajman Palace Hotel Celebrates ‘Hag Al Laila’ with Traditional Fervour

AL BARSHA, UAE - June 18, 2015 - PRLog -- The Ajman Palace Hotel hosted the ‘Hag Al Laila’ celebration, organised by the Ajman Tourism Development Department on June 1, 2015. The cultural event was marked by a host of activities in which the hotel’s resident as well as non-resident guests participated.

Ferghal Purcell, General Manager of The Ajman Palace Hotel, said that it is one of the several customs and traditions Emiratis have inherited from their ancestors. It is difficult to say how old this tradition is or how it originated, but it is a nice way to discover the past.

He said, “Children across the UAE look for Hag Al Laila, which is celebrated on 15th day of Sha’aban, the eighth month of the Islamic calendar. This is an important occasion to relive Emirati heritage and introduce children to their rich cultural roots as they go from house to house carrying their message and in return receive sweets from elders. It is also a wonderful way to connect children with the elderly in their neighbourhood.”

Keeping up with the tradition, the hotel organised a special function on the day including a range of cultural activities. It gave the hotel’s guests an opportunity to experience the local culture such as henna art as well as dressed up in traditional dresses to click photos.
