DULUTH, Ga. - June 15, 2015 - PRLog -- On June 5, 2015 close to 200 supporters of HomeAid Atlanta and Rainbow Village gathered for a dedication and ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a new apartment building at Rainbow Village, a transitional housing community for homeless families with children.  Bishop Keith Whitmore of the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta blessed the building just before the ribbon cutting.

The new three-story, six-unit building will add approximately 36 beds to the campus.  Each apartment includes three bedrooms, kitchen, living room, and two bathrooms.  The new building will allow Rainbow Village to expand its transitional housing capacity, increasing its service to the community.

This project was lead by HomeAid volunteer builder captain, Mike Smith of Harcrest Homes. In addition to Smith’s time, members of the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association donated generously of their time, talents and materials to the project. Major donors include Boral Building Products, ProBuild, Maytag Appliances/Whirlpool Corporation, James Hardie Building Products, White Rock, Inc., and Construction Resources, Inc.

HomeAid provided a savings to Rainbow Village of approximately $200,000 on construction costs.  Rainbow Village will use these savings to directly serve its program participants like Johanna, a Rainbow Village program graduate who spoke at the dedication ceremony.  She commented that during her time at Rainbow Village she truly felt like part of a community for the first time in her life.

Also present for the ceremony was HomeAid America CEO Peter Simons who remarked, “The Rainbow Village project completed by HomeAid Atlanta is the largest housing project HomeAid has dedicated anywhere in the country this year.  It will allow Rainbow Village to expand the critical services it provides to help end homelessness in the metro area.”

HomeAid Atlanta, founded in 2001,is a nonprofit organization that builds new lives for homeless families and individuals through housing and community outreach.  HomeAid works in partnership with the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association, as well as community building industry organizations, to assist the temporarily homeless.  To date, HomeAid Atlanta has completed 53 housing, remodel and care day projects at locations that serve victims of domestic violence, teen mothers, abused and abandoned children, and more.  Learn more at www.homeaidatlanta.org

Rainbow Village is a transformational housing community for homeless families with children. Most of the heads of households at Rainbow Village are women fleeing lives of domestic violence and poverty. Rainbow Village doesn't just provide a quick fix in times of crisis but offers a long-term program that includes support services for the whole family including life skills training, character building, counseling, career development, after-school programs, financial education, and more. The goal is to break the cycles of homelessness, poverty and domestic violence by teaching adults and children to believe in themselves again, to chart a new course, and to work a plan that enables them to once again be self-sufficient.  www.rainbowvillage.org.
