Help Who Dat SteppersGrow by Voting Online Before June 19, 2015

New Orleans, LA – Who Dat Steppers, a local Dance Instruction & Education business, has applied for a $100,000 grant from Chase’s, Mission Main Street Grants®. Who Dat Steppers must submit a questionnaire outlining a business plan that will result in growth of the business and receive at least 250 votes to be eligible for a grant. Full eligibility requirements are available in the Program Rules (https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/rules). Customers, fans and community members can show support for [Who Dat Steppers] by voting at www.MissionMainStreetGrants.com https://www.missionmainstreetgrants.com/b/33337 using Facebook Connect.  (You must have a Facebook account and be logged in to Facebook to vote.)

The voting deadline is June 19, 2015 and grant recipients will be selected by expert panelists “Who Dat Steppers is striving to grow and expand by promoting and establishing an Urban Social Partner Dance Community in New Orleans, as a means of social, health & fitness and economic independence in economically suppressed neighborhoods.  “I receive messages from people all over the country throughout the year (I just got a facebook message 2 days ago from someone who’s going to be in town for the Essence Festival) asking me “Hey Oz, I’m going to be in New Orleans, where’s can I go to step/swingout?” (referring to popular Urban Social Partner Dances, “Chicago Steppin”, “Houston 2 Step” & “DFW Swing”), says “Who Dat Steppers” Founder & Instructor, Oswald (Oz) Cooper.  “It’s painful and a litte disheartening to have to reply, ‘there are no Urban Social Partner Dance Clubs in New Orleans, you gotta go to Baton Rouge’.”  Baton Rouge has a thriving Social Urban Partner Dance Community looking to expand into New Orleans.  (That’s where learned and go to dance.)  They want to (and do) come to New Orleans but they don’t come as frequently because of the limited places to go get their urban partner dance on.  This grant would be used to cover the overhead to secure a permanent venue for classes, dancing & events (all year long), hire instructors for workshops, hire local musicians for events, pay for security for those classes & events, to establish an Urban Social Partner Dance Community in New Orleans.  Receiving this grant would be an unbelievable opportunity to increase and distribute some of the cities tourism dollars to the inner city of New Orleans, to grow & secure its own economic future.  “The Harlem Renaissance got it’s foundation from Jazz musicians who migrated north after the historic Storyville redlight district was shut down in the late 1890’s.  Let’s not miss out on that opportunity again.  Who Dat Steppers vision is to start a New Orleans Renaissance  were the all of the people that make up and contribute to the cultural economy of the city (musicians, artist and residents) benefit from it, by tapping into and growing, the hidden Urban Social Partner Dance Industry in New Orleans,” said Who Dat Steppers, Founder, Oswald (Oz) Cooper.]

About The Urban Social Partner Dance Institute

Our mission is connection.  Social partner dancing is all about connection.  In a world that’s so digitally/electronically connected, we have never been so disconnected socially; fathers are disconnected from families, neighbors from neighborhoods, communities from police, people from government, government from the people.  Our goal is to use Urban Social Partner Dance to reconnect us to our humanity, our humanity to the creation and the creation to the creator.  This is not a new idea.  The arts and artist have always been at the core of progressive social change in America.  From Jazz & Swing (Lindy Hop) to Disco & The Hustle, Urban Social Partner Dancing has always influenced the social construct, especially in the African American community in New Orleans, beginning with Congo Square in 1817.  Our aim is to use that spirit of our ancestors, that gave us Jazz & Swing, to reconnect us to each other, one beat, one step, one song, one dance at a time.  Help me take that first step by voting for my business to be considered for the $100,000, Chase Mission Main Street Grant  Click on the following social media links to vote for “Who Dat Steppers”:
