By: Practical Dermatology & Dermatopathology Symposium

VAIL, Colo. - June 12, 2015 - PRLog -- The second annual Practical Dermatology and Dermatopathology Symposium, founded by Clay J. Cockerell M.D., will be held June 18-21, 2015 at the Vail Marriott Mountain Resort in Vail, Colorado. This groundbreaking conference is focused on uniting dermatologists, dermatopathologists and industry in order to provide better care to patients with accurate diagnosis of skin cancers and other skin related disorders. The agenda includes dermatologic case discussions, histological slide review, and a lecture on financial literacy and entrepreneurship in healthcare by the Jack Welch Management Institute. The attendees will include dermatologists, Mohs surgeons, dermatopathologists, pathologists, physician extenders, dermatology and pathology residents and dermatopathology fellows from around the US.

About the Symposium

The Practical Symposium is different from other dermatology conferences as it is not focused on educational aspects of dermatopathology alone but it emphasizes the integration of clinical dermatology, dermatopathology and industry by exploring in depth how these complement each other.  “It became a vision of mine to develop a new conference that would be distinct from any that are offered currently.  Our conference is dedicated to the integration of clinical dermatology, dermatopathology and industry which has never been done before,” said Clay J. Cockerell M.D., founder of The Practical Symposium and Cockerell Dermatopathology who is a dermatologist and dermatopathologist practicing in Dallas, Texas.

This will be the second year the Practical Symposium has been conducted after a successful turnout of over one hundred dermatology and dermatopathology professionals in 2014. Attendance is expected to be even higher this year due to the addition of new lecture topics including a presentation by The Jack Welch Management Institute on leadership and entrepreneurship for physicians as well as a comprehensive slide review with histopathological discussion geared towards residents and others who are preparing for examinations.  Other new components to the meeting this year will include a lecture on physician health and well-being entitled “Lessons for Physicians from the Tao Te Ching” among others.  “All individuals attending the meeting, including industry partners, are welcome to attend all sessions,” noted Dr. Cockerell.

With emphasis placed on clinicopathologic correlation, the overall goal of The Practical Symposium is to show how these three important elements of dermatology can work together to help providers establish accurate diagnoses and plan optimal treatment for their patients as well as guide new research, drug and device product development within the field of dermatology. The conference will provide a rich educational experience with the interaction between skin care professionals and dermatopathologists explored in a number of different sessions throughout the symposium.
