Follow on Google News | Brooklyn Man Assaulted By Corrections Officers at Rikers Island Files Notice of ClaimRobert complied with the orders of the New York City Correction Officers and put on the gray jumpsuit although some of the other inmates in adjoining cells refused to comply with the orders of the New York City Correction Officers. Next, New York City Correction Officers began spraying Robert in the eyes with mace and attacking him. About seven (7) New York City Correction Officers then tackled Robert to the ground and cuffed his left hand. Robert’s right hand was now behind his back as well and he lay head down on the concrete floor. Numerous New York City Correction Officers then continued to spray Robert directly in the eyes with mace while kicking and punching him in the face and head. More specifically, Robert was punched and/or kicked directly in his left eye. A few hours after the beating, Robert was taken to a medical clinic at AMKC for examination of his injuries suffered at the hands of the New York City Correction Officers who assaulted him. Medical personnel at the AMKC clinic referred Robert to West Facility, and doctors there determined that Robert had suffered serious injuries to his left eye. As such, doctors there determined that Robert’s injuries were so severe, that he must be taken to Bellevue for treatment. At Bellevue, it was determined that he had suffered an orbital fracture of his left eye, requiring immediate surgery to avoid complete, permanent loss of vision in his left eye. Surgery was performed and a metal plate was placed in his left eye as part of the surgery. Robert remained at Bellevue for four (4) days and was then transported to North Infirmary Command (NIC) on Rikers Island. He also sustained injuries to his back. Robert seeks, among other things, monetary redress for injuries to his well being, the full extent of which are as yet not fully determined, but including injury to his left eye and back; as well as ongoing pain and suffering. Robert claims damages for physical, mental and psychological pain and suffering, embarrassment, humiliation; Michael J.
