Mark Blount, Former NBA Player, Lends A Hand In His Community

By: Mark Blount

HOBE SOUND, Fla. - June 11, 2015 - PRLog -- Mark Blount, a Hobe Sound resident and former NBA star with the Miami Heat and the Boston Celtics, lent a helping hand at the New Monrovia Community Summer Time Kick Off in Port Salerno on June 6.  Mark was invited by Martin County Sheriff’s Deputy Tyler Ludlow to meet the residents and play basketball with the kids.

“I know Tyler personally and when he asked me to come up and play a little basketball with the neighborhood kids and hang out with them, I was glad for the opportunity. We hope to do some more community events together and maybe even work on a basketball tournament later this year,” said the 7-foot-tall athlete.

The event was organized by sponsors and community partners including Famous Wings, Jimmy Smith’s Bar-B-Q, NAACP, The Firefly Group, Keep Martin Beautiful. Martin County Sheriff’s Offfice, Gloretta Hall, P.A. and local churches.

According to Rob Ranieri with Keep Martin Beautiful, 25 Port Salerno homes were part of an Extreme Makeover Project coordinated by Habitat Angel, a coalition of local churches, in March.

The gathering this past weekend was a celebration of that project and a chance for the community to get together again and celebrate their success.
