Navgathi offers New Panamax Vessel Retro-fit Design

For new panamax vessels the maximum length is increased from 294 to 366 meter; maximum breadth from 32.31 to 49 meters and maximum draft from 12 to 15.2 meters. Vessels whose dimensions lie in between are good candidates for such modification.

The major modification expected is installation of chocks and bitts in fore and aft end of the vessel. Apart from that pilot platforms and pilot shelters have to be installed in suitable positions at bridge wings and forward sides. The wheelhouse windows shall be of sufficient size and number to provide a clear view. Visibility of the vessels needs to be re-assessed with respect to the new Panama Canal requirements.
