Fairhaven Memorial Launches Free Pet Grief Support Group

Local memorial park extends current grief counseling services to meet needs of pet lovers

SANTA ANA, Calif. - June 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Fairhaven Memorial Park & Mortuary is proud to announce a new monthly pet loss grief support group beginning Tuesday, Aug. 18. The 3-month series will provide support to individuals coping with grief after the loss of a pet. The group is open to the general Orange County community, free of charge, and is an extension of Fairhaven’s regular monthly grief support group.

“We recognize that pets become family, and when one experiences the loss of a pet’s companionship, it is often difficult to find a safe environment to grieve,” said Marla Noel, president of Fairhaven. “Co-workers, friends and even family may not understand the depth of loss that a pet lover feels.”

Noel added, “I have experienced first-hand the feelings of devastation that accompany the loss of a pet and I have wished I had an open forum to express and deal with the pain. Our pet grief support group will do just that – provide a supportive environment for individuals to find hope and healing after losing their furry loved ones.”

With locations in Santa Ana (http://www.fairhavenmemorial.com/) and Mission Viejo (http://www.fairhavenmemorialservices.com/), Fairhaven has a venerable history of community involvement and support. The 104-year-old memorial park created this new support group to expand its current grief support services to serve a new, underserved population.

To enhance Fairhaven’s grief support expertise in pet bereavement counseling, Fairhaven obtained pet grief certification from the nationwide Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (http://www.aplb.org/).  The new support group at Fairhaven will follow the same guidelines, with the highest-quality of care and compassion, with topics tailored to pet loss including how to understand grief, symptoms and emotions, and support for grieving.

Fairhaven’s monthly pet grief support group will take place at 6 p.m. on three Tuesdays during the summer: Aug. 18, Sept. 15, and Oct. 20.To register for Fairhaven’s pet grief support group or for more information, contact Ruth Velez at rvelez@fairhavenmemorial.com or call (714) 633-1442.
