Costco to Host Book Signing for Local Fort Wayne Author

Randolph L. Harter will be available to sign copies of pictorial history

FORT WAYNE, Ind. - June 10, 2015 - PRLog -- Fort Wayne, by local author Randolph L. Harter, contains over 200 vintage images and postcards chronicling the growth and change of this Indiana city.

Founded at the confluence of three rivers—the St. Mary’s, St. Joseph and the hence formed Maumee—Fort Wayne stands astride a rich and storied history. A history that begins with the 1792 order issued by Pres. George Washington for Maj. Gen. “Mad” Anthony Wayne to secure and construct a permanent fortification at the headwaters of the Maumee. Wayne arrived on September 17, 1794, and a fortification was constructed and dedicated as Fort Wayne on October 21, 1794. In the ensuing 200-plus years, a thriving city of over 250,000 persons has emerged.

Postcard History Series: Fort Wayne celebrates the growth and success of this city during the first half of 20th century. The book provides a virtual snapshot, both visually and written, of Fort Wayne.

Highlights of Fort Wayne include:

A collection of rare images and postcards, the majority of which come from the Harter Postcard Collection at the Allen County Public Library, which was donated by the author and his wife.
Includes stores, restaurants, hotels, theaters, churches, industry and other local Fort Wayne companies, many of which no longer exist.
Recounts the city’s three most horrific disasters, the 1908 Aveline Hotel Fire, the 1911 Penn Flyer Wreck and the 1913 Flood.
